The 06 diagnostic code indicates an internal failure of the Status Control Module (SCM) or an unstable voltage supply.
Test Step 1. Check the SCM
- Clear the diagnostic code by turning the Engine Control Switch (ECS) to the OFF/RESET position.
- Wait for 90 seconds and then attempt to start the engine.
Expected Result:
The engine starts and the engine runs. The 06 diagnostic fault code is not active.
Results:
- OK - The engine starts and the engine runs. The 06 diagnostic fault code is not active.
Repair: There may be a problem with the Crank Termination Relay (CTR) or the Fuel Control Relay (FCR). Proceed to Testing and Adjusting, "Relay Module - Test".
STOP
- Not OK - The 06 diagnostic fault code is active. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Test Step 2. Inspect Electrical Connectors and Wiring
- Turn the main disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Thoroughly inspect all of the connectors that are associated with the circuit.
Expected Result:
All connectors, pins and sockets are completely coupled and/or inserted and the harness and wiring are free of corrosion, of abrasion and of pinch points.
Results:
- OK - The harness and connectors appear to be OK. Proceed to Test Step 3.
- Not OK - There is a problem with the connectors and/or wiring.
Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Ensure that all of the seals are properly in place and ensure that the connectors are completely coupled.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.

Test Step 3. Checked the Switched +Battery At the SCM
- Connect a jumper wire between terminal D and terminal F at the SCM.
- Turn the main disconnect switch to the ON position.
- Clear the diagnostic code by turning the ECS to the OFF/RESET position.
- Attempt to start the engine.
Expected Result:
The engine starts and the engine runs. The 06 diagnostic fault code becomes active after the engine is running.
Results:
- OK - The engine starts and the engine runs. The 06 diagnostic fault code becomes active after the engine is running.
Repair: Verify that the harness for the +Battery and the −Battery to the SCM is OK.If the harness is not OK, repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. If the harness is OK, replace the SCM.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.
STOP
- Not OK - The 06 diagnostic fault code becomes active before the engine is running.
Repair: Verify that the harness for the SCM is OK.If the harness is not OK, repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. If the harness is OK, replace the SCM.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.
STOP
- Not OK - The 06 diagnostic fault code becomes active before the engine is running. The engine cranks slowly or the engine will not crank.
Repair: Measure the voltage at the battery posts. Check the wiring and/or connectors between the SCM and the battery.Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Replace the battery, if necessary.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.
