Introduction
There have been isolated instances of issues with accelerated wear on the electronic unit injectors. This Special Instruction, "New Secondary Fuel Filter" will prevent the issue.
Refer to Special Instruction, KENR6938, "High Leakoff of the Electronic Unit Injector" in order to determine the condition of the electronic unit injectors. After the Special Instruction, KENR6938, "High Leakoff of the Electronic Unit Injector" has been completed, carry out this Special Instruction, "New Secondary Fuel Filter".

Typical example |
- Install setscrews (4) to the new secondary fuel filter assembly base (5). Secure the secondary fuel filter base (5) to the engine. Tighten the setscrews (4) to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
Note: Ensure that the new secondary fuel filter assembly base (5) has an identification mark (3). The identification mark (3) is on the top of the new secondary fuel filter assembly base (5). The identification mark (3) is a hole that has a depth of 3 mm (0.1181 inch).
- Install tube assemblies (1) and (2) .
- Install the tertiary fuel filter assembly (6) to the chassis of the machine.
- Make a flexible fuel hose to a specification that complies with SAE J30R9. The required internal diameter of the flexible fuel hose should be 8 mm (0.3150 inch). Four 1P-4278 Hose Clamps and a selection of connectors are required from 215-9515 Hose Connector and 215-9513 Hose Connector .
- Connect the flexible fuel hose to the ECM connection (A) and the inlet connection (B) of the tertiary fuel filter. Then connect the flexible fuel hose between the outlet connection (C) of the tertiary fuel filter and the inlet connection (D) of the secondary fuel filter base.
- Prime the fuel system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime".
- Run the engine. Check the fuel system for fuel leaks.
