Remote control panel (status) (1) "Warning" indicator (2) "Shutdown" indicator (3) "Power On" indicator (4) "Diagnostic Reset" switch (5) "Status Control Module (SCM)" (6) "Engine Control Switch (ECS)" (7) "Emergency Stop Push Button (ESPB)" |
The remote control panel (status) contains the engine's SCM, an ESPB and an ECS.
The SCM is used to monitor the following engine parameters:
- Oil pressure
- Coolant temperature
- Engine overspeed
- Overcrank of starting motor
The SCM controls the normal start/stop functions while providing two-stage shutdown engine protection.
When the ESPB is pressed, the fuel will be shutdown and the engine ignition is turned off.
NOTICE |
---|
The ESPB is not to be used for normal engine shutdown. To avoid possible engine damage, use the ECS for normal engine shutdown. |
The ECS has the following four positions:
- OFF/RESET
- AUTO
- MANUAL/START
- COOLDOWN/STOP
Function of Controls
When the ESPB (7) button is pressed, the gas shutoff valve is de-energized which stops the fuel supply to the engine. At the same time a relay is de-energized to open the ground circuit to the shutdown switch of the Electronic Ignition System (EIS) control.
NOTICE |
---|
The ESPB is not to be used for normal engine shutdown. To avoid possible engine damage, use the ECS for normal engine shutdown. |
To restart the engine, the ESPB must be reset.
The ECS (6) determines the status of engine operation.
With the ECS in the AUTO position, the engine will start automatically whenever the optional Initiating Contact (IC) is closed. The engine will also shut down after the IC opens.
With the ECS in the MANUAL/START position, the engine will start normally.
With the ECS in the COOLDOWN/STOP position, the engine will be shutdown after the cool down time has elapsed. The cool down period can be programmed up to 30 minutes.
With the ECS in the OFF/RESET position, the fault lights are reset and the engine shuts down immediately.
The power will be removed from the SCM and the EIS when the engine is shut down. Power is also removed from the Electronic Control Module (ECM) on engines that are equipped with the optional Air Fuel Ratio Control (AFRC).
