The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
Complete purge pumps are being replaced when the service kit 304-9994 Air Pump Gp can be used. The complete purge pump, either part number 297-7223 Air Pump Gp or 304-9992 Air Pump Gp are no longer available.
Solution
Low purge pressures or high purge pressures do not justify a complete replacement of the purge pump.
In most scenarios, the 304-9994 Air Pump Gp will repair the purge system. Repair with a complete purge pump is only necessary in the case of an electrical issue with the purge pump.
For 2007 heavy-duty diesel truck engines, use Special Instruction, REHS3822 if the troubleshooting procedure requires replacement of the complete purge pump. Do not use Special Instruction, REHS3822 when a service kit can be utilized.
If the troubleshooting guide recommends replacement of the complete purge pump and Special Instruction, REHS3822 is followed, the repair can be reimbursed through warranty provided that the engine is still eligible for warranty.
Note: If Special Instruction, REHS3822 is used, list the part that causes the failure as the 304-9992 Air Pump Gp or the 297-7223 Air Pump Gp . These parts have been recalled in order to analyze the failed components.
