  1. Ensure that all components are clean and free from damage.

  1. If necessary, install new bushing (32) . Use Tooling (D) to install the new bushing. Refer to Specifications, "Gear Group (Front)" for the correct tolerances.

  1. Lubricate bushing (32) with clean engine oil.

    Movement of the counterweight can cause personal injury.

  1. Install balancer weights (31) into the balancer frame. Ensure that the balance weights are installed in the correct orientation.

  1. If necessary, install new bushing (33) . Use Tooling (D) to install the new bushing. Refer to Specifications, "Gear Group (Front)" for the correct tolerances.

  1. Lubricate the bushing with clean engine oil.

  1. Install the rear section of balancer frame (30) . Ensure the correct location of the cover on the dowels. Use a soft faced hammer in order to locate the cover onto the rear of the balancer.

  1. Install bolts (29) . Tighten the bolts to a torque of 55 N·m (41 lb ft). Ensure that the balancer weights rotate freely.

  1. Use tooling (E) in order to check the backlash between gears (31) of the balance weights. Refer to Specifications, "Gear Group (Front)" for the correct tolerances.

  1. Install tool (A) in order to lock balancer weights in the correct position.

  1. Install cover (28) to the rear of the balancer frame.

  1. Install bolts (27) . Tighten the bolts to a torque of 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  1. Lubricate outer rotor (26) with clean engine oil.

  1. Install the outer rotor to the oil pump body (34) .

  1. Check the clearance between outer rotor (26) and oil pump body (34) . Refer to Specifications, "Engine Oil Pump" for the correct tolerances.

  1. Lubricate inner rotor (25) with clean engine oil. Install the inner rotor to outer rotor (26) .

  1. Check the clearance between inner rotor (25) and outer rotor (26) . Refer to Specifications, "Engine Oil Pump" for the correct tolerances.

  1. Check the end play of the rotor assembly. Refer to Specifications, "Engine Oil Pump" for the correct tolerances.

  1. Position oil pump cover (24) and install bolt (23) . Tighten the bolt finger tight.

  1. Install oil pump assembly (22) to the balancer frame. Install the remaining bolts and tighten the bolts to a torque of 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  1. If necessary, install new needle bearing (20) . Use Tooling (F) to install the new needle bearing. Refer to Specifications, "Gear Group (Front)" for the correct tolerances.

  1. If necessary, install new needle bearing (21) . Use Tooling (G) to install needle bearing (21) . Refer to Specifications, "Gear Group (Front)" for the correct tolerances.

  1. Lubricate the needle bearings with clean engine oil.

  1. Use Tooling (H) on thread (35) and drive shaft splines (36) .

  1. Install drive shaft (16) and align splines (37) with the oil pump assembly.

  1. Align gear (17) with drive shaft splines (36) .

  1. Ensure correct alignment of gear (38) on the drive shaft. Refer to Illustration 15 for the position of the gear and counter balancer weight. The position of the gear on the drive shaft and balancer weight is shown in Illustration 16 after tooling (A) has been removed.

  1. Install nut (18) . Use the nut to draw the gear onto splines of drive shaft. Tighten the nut to a torque of 82 N·m (61 lb ft).

  1. In order to check the end play of the drive shaft, refer to Specifications, "Gear Group (Front)" for the correct tolerances.

  1. Use Tooling (E) in order to check the backlash in gear (17) and the splined shaft on the balancer weight (39) . Refer to Specifications, "Gear Group (Front)" for the correct tolerances.

  1. Lubricate needle bearing (41) with clean engine oil.

  1. Install the needle bearing to idler hub (40) .

  1. Install idler gear (13) to the hub and bearing. Ensure correct orientation of gear. Install washer (15) .

  1. Install a new bolt (14) to the assembly of the idler gear.

  1. Install idler gear assembly to the balancer frame.

  1. Tighten bolt (14) to a torque of 93 N·m (69 lb ft).

  1. Use Tooling (E) in order to check the backlash between gear (13) and gear (42) . Refer to Specifications, "Gear Group (Front)" for the correct tolerances.

  1. Install cover (12) and install bolts (11) . Tighten the bolts to a torque of 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

  1. Install suction pipe (43) with a new joint (6) (not shown). Install bolts (5) and tighten the bolts to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

    Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.

    To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.

  1. Lubricate plunger (10) with clean engine oil.

  1. Use Tooling (B) to install plunger (10) into the balancer frame.

    Note: The plunger must slide freely in the bore for the relief valve.

  1. Install spring (9) and install cap (8) .

  1. Use a suitable tool to compress the spring.

  1. Install pin (7) into the balancer frame.
