  1. Remove bolts (5) and suction pipe.

  1. Remove joint (6) (not shown).

    ------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.

    ----------------------

Note: The spring force will be released when the pin is removed.

  1. Remove pin (7) from balancer (3) .

  1. Remove cap (8) and remove spring (9) .

  1. Use tool (B) to remove plunger (10) .

  1. Remove bolts (27) .

  1. Remove rear cover (28) from the locating dowels of the balancer. Make a note of the position of the arrows on the outside of the cover. Refer to Illustration 10 for engines that have the oil filter on the left hand side. Refer to Illustration 11 for engines that have the oil filter on the right hand side of the engine. Illustration 10 and Illustration 11 view the engine from the rear.

Note: There are two plugs in the balancer frame, a short tapered plug with a hexagonal socket head and a long plug with a square socket head. These plugs control the flow of oil through the balancer frame.

Note: The position of the plug is dictated by the location of the oil filter. When the filter is located on the left side the short plug is located in the side of the balancer and the long plug is located in the bottom. When the filter is located on the right side of the engine, the short plug is located in the bottom of the balancer and the long plug is located in the side.

Note: Removal of the plugs in the rear of the balancer frame can cause damage to the threads. If the threads are damaged the balancer frame must be replaced.
