Idler Gears (Rear) - Install

Installation Procedure

Note: Use 8T-0447 Dial Calipers to measure the dimensions in the following procedure.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


    Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "General Information (Reference Material)" for more information.

  1. Inspect shaft (7) for damage. The diameter of the bearing surface on shaft (7) should be 105.84 ± 0.02 mm (4.167 ± 0.001 inch). Install the dowel to a height of 7.0 ± 0.5 mm (0.28 ± 0.02 inch) above the surface of shaft (7) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to shaft (7). The weight of shaft (7) is approximately 25 kg (55 lb). Position shaft (7) on the cylinder block. Install bolts (9). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 270 ± 25 N·m (200 ± 18 lb ft).

  1. Install thrust washer (8) .

  1. Assemble the idler gear assembly:

    1. If necessary, install bearing (3). Bearing (3) must be 2.50 ± 0.5 mm (0.098 ± 0.02 inch) below the surface of gear (4) .

    1. Position gear (5) on gear (4). Install bolts (6) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to the idler gear assembly. The weight of the idler gear assembly is approximately 54 kg (119 lb). Install the idler gear assembly on the shaft. Install retainer (2) and bolts (1) .

End By: Install the camshaft drive gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft Drive Gear - Install".
