Enhancements Available For Marine PAR Program {1000}

Usage:

Caterpillar has developed several new state-of-the-art enhancements to the Marine Engine PAR (Performance Analysis Report) Program. The following describes these new programs and products available and provides ordering instructions for each.

Sea Trial Guide (LEBM6302)

A new Sea Trial Guide is available to provide a method to audit the quality of installation for a newly installed marine engine and/or transmission. This publication is intended for use as a guide for certified marine analyst and sales personnel that are familiar with Caterpillar requirements for marine application and installation. It provides the necessary guidelines to make an effective audit during the design and construction phases of an installation.

The new Sea Trial Guide also identifies the diagnostic measurements, their specific locations, and the tools and installation instructions required to conduct the performance (PAR) audit. Actual Caterpillar factory performance specifications are required to conduct the marine engine and/or transmission performance audit. Factory-developed performance specifications for current engines and transmissions are presented in the Sea Trial Performance Specification Microfiche included in the Sea Trial Guide.

The Sea Trial Guide booklet can be ordered through the Corporate Literature Distribution System by ordering LEBM6302. This publication includes the Sea Trial Performance Specification Microfiche Group, LEFM7106. Ordering the Sea Trial Guide Booklet automatically qualifies you to receive updated Sea Trial Performance Specification Microfiche. Updates are scheduled nine times yearly.

Examples of the design, construction, and performance audit forms are included in each Sea Trial Guide. Audit forms are packaged in groups of 25 and are available from the Corporate Literature Distribution System by ordering the following numbers:

... SEHS8716, Caterpillar Marine Application Design Review Audit Form

... SEHS8717, Caterpillar Marine Application Construction Review Audit Form

... SEHS8718, Caterpillar Marine Application Performance Analysis Review Audit Form

Caterpillar expects this program to improve the effectiveness of the dealer's sales and service personnel in their working relationship with the vessel builders, architects, and customers through the design, construction, and performance phases of the sea trial. A successful sea trial will develop the baseline propulsion system performance necessary for future evaluation and specific maintenance scheduling - all of which lead to more frequent customer contact and parts sales and service opportunity.

CAMPAR (Computer-Aided Marine Performance Analysis Report) (LEXM7082)

Caterpillar has developed IBM computer-aided marine performance analysis report (CAMPAR) software as an aid to those certified marine analysts trained to perform and analyze marine PAR test results on 3500, 3400, 3300, 3200, and most current D300 Families of Engines. CAMPAR provides for easy organization of descriptive information about the owner, vessel, and propulsion system as well as permanent storage of the propulsion system performance data.

CAMPAR includes the original factory performance specifications required for complete analysis of the vessel's propulsion system. CAMPAR is designed to produce a marine PAR report complete with descriptive information, tabular performance data, graphic representation of the engine's actual and specified fuel rate curves, and interpretation of the results with recommendations.

The following IBM or IBM-compatible hardware items are required to run the CAMPAR Program:

1. An IBM Personal Computer or compatible computer.
2. 640K of random access memory (RAM).
3. IBM graphics hardware (special hardware available from IBM).
4. At least one disk drive (dual disk drive systems preferred).
5. A video monitor (color preferred).
6. Compatible Dot Matrix printer (some non-Dot Matrix printers may be compatible only after software program and hardware modifications).
7. IBM and/or compatible disk operating system (DOS) diskette(s) which contain IBM GRAPHICS and IBM BASICA programs.
8. Several blank 5.25" double-sided, double-density diskettes.

The CAMPAR Program diskettes and operation guide are available through the Caterpillar Corporate Literature Distribution System using the following form numbers:

... LEXM7082, CAMPAR Program Diskettes and Operation Guide.

... LEXM7081, CAMPAR Operation Guide.

As factory performance specification data expands and new products are introduced, updated CAMPAR Program diskettes will be introduced through the Corporate Literature Distribution System.

Fuel Flow Monitor System

The Caterpillar Service Technology Group has recently developed the Fuel Flow Monitor System. The Caterpillar Fuel Flow Monitor System is a versatile fuel flow measurement system. It is designed to measure engine fuel flow rates during marine engine PAR evaluations. The system uses two state-of-the art turbine flow meters and a hand-held monitor to provide fuel flow and fuel temperature measurement of each fuel line on engines which have both supply and return to tank fuel lines. It can also be used as a single meter measurement system for those engines which do not have a return fuel line.

Two sizes of fuel flow meters are available to measure the fuel flow on most Caterpillar Engines. In addition to the flow and temperature information for both fuel lines, the instantaneous consumption rate of the engine, the average consumption rate over a period of time, and total fuel consumed is calculated and displayed in either U.S. or S.I. units. Several arrangements of the Caterpillar Fuel Flow Monitor System are available through the Morton Parts Distribution Center using the following arrangement numbers:

... 1U5450 Complete Engine Test Arrangement consists of a complete system for both small to medium (3200, D300 Families) and large (3500 through 3608 Families) engines. This arrangement also includes all necessary hose and adapter groups.

... 1U5430 Small To Medium Engine Fuel Flow Monitor Arrangement (3200 through D300 Families), including hose and adapter group.

... 1U5440 Large Engine Fuel Flow Monitor Arrangement (3500 through 3608 Families) including hose and adapter groups.

Individual component groups and optional equipment are available form the Morton Parts Distribution Center. Contact the Caterpillar Service Technology Group for availability and price.
