Three electrical and electronic training aids, that were formerly available as form numbers in the Caterpillar Literature Distribution System, have been released as Caterpillar part numbers. These training aids are no longer available as form numbers. But they are available through normal Caterpillar parts distribution channels. The chart lists the new part numbers and the corresponding previous form numbers.
These training aids are used for electrical and electronic training as a part of a training course provided by Service Training. The course is called "Electronic Systems: A Basic Course". This course approaches the subject from a practical point of view. No prior electrical knowledge is required. Upon completion of the course, the serviceman should be capable of identifying the problem component within an electrical system. The course is not intended to teach repair of electronic components for circuit boards.
The 8T9170 Electrical Components Group provides training in the electronic system basics. It shows the student how to wire circuits, make multimeter measurements, test diodes, test transistor switches, test SCR switches and test magnetic switches.
The 8T9171 Electronic Monitoring Demonstration System simulates the Electronic Monitoring System of the 824C Wheel Tractor. The system has 20 problems available for the student's troubleshooting practice. Each problem is installed with the push of a button.
The 8T9172 Four Speed Electronic Switching Demonstration System simulates the Electronic Switching System of the 637D Wheel Tractor-Scraper. The system has 20 problems available for the student's troubleshooting practice. Each problem is installed with the push of a button.
