Front and Rear Axle Lip Seal May Fail on Certain M-Series Medium Wheel Loaders {3254, 3256, 3258, 3282, 7555}

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
The front and rear axle lip seals may experience oil leaks on the machines listed above. Field reports have been received that most failures occurred on the front axle lip seal between the yoke and the inner diameter of the seal.
Solution
In the event of front axle lip seal failure, follow the below procedure to measure the depth of the lip seal before removing the seal from the bore.
- Measure the depth between the flat surface of bore (A) and the most outer flat surface of the lip seal (B) using a caliper. Refer to Illustration 1 and Illustration 2.

Illustration 3 g06062339 - Measure the depth at eight points indicated around the circumference of the bore/seal.
- Write down the following notes for each point measured:
- The serial number of the failed vehicle__________.
- The location of the measurement (the numbers on Illustration 3)_________.
- The reading on the caliper (mm)_________.
- Remove the lip seal, once depth measurements at all eight locations around the lip seal have been recorded.
