Certain C9 engines are susceptible to reduced life of the fuel injector if the quantity of the fuel and the quality of the fuel are not monitored regularly. The following conditions could produce these results.
- Allowing the engine to run out of fuel
- Operating the machine on sloped terrain with a low quantity of fuel
Poor fuel quality can contribute to reduction in injector life. If the fuel quality is allowed to deteriorate, the fuel filtering system can become restricted. A restricted fuel filtering system can reduce the amount of fuel that is supplied to the injector.
Caterpillar recommends changing fuel filters at the recommended change levels. Refer to the machines Operation and Maintenance Manual. Following these guidelines will help prolong the life of the fuel injector.
