ECM Does Not Communicate with Other Modules

Usage:

The connection of any electrical equipment and the disconnection of any electrical equipment may cause an explosion hazard which may result in injury or death. Do not connect any electrical equipment or disconnect any electrical equipment in an explosive atmosphere.


Probable Causes

  • Electronic Control Module (ECM)

  • Electrical connectors

  • CAN data link

  • Cat data link

Recommended Actions

ECM

Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). If the ECM does not communicate with Cat ET, refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Service Tool Does Not Communicate".

Electrical Connectors

Check for correct installation of the J1/P1 and J2/P2 ECM connectors. Check for correct installation of all other applicable connectors. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect".

CAN data link (if applicable)

Verify that the CAN data link does not have an open or short circuit. Refer to Troubleshooting, "CAN Data Link - Test".

Cat Data Link

Verify that the Cat Data Link does not have an open or short circuit. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Cat Data Link - Test".
