Start By:

  1. Release the hydraulic system pressure.

  2. Remove the counterweight.

  3. Remove the main hydraulic pump.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contamination of the hydraulic system with foreign material will reduce the service life of the hydraulic system components.

To prevent contaminants from entering the hydraulic system, always plug or cap the lines, fittings, or hoses as they are disconnected. Cover any disassembled components and clean them properly before assembly.

Clean the hydraulic system properly after any major component exchange or especially after a component failure, to remove any contamination.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the engine. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change". Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Check" for the correct draining and filling procedure.

  2. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  3. Remove bolts (2), bolts (3), and sheet assembly (1).

  4. Remove bolts (6) and support assembly (7).

  5. Remove bolts (8) and support assembly (9).

  6. Remove bolts (4) and support assembly (5).

  7. Remove bolts (11) and sheet assembly (10).

  8. Remove bolts (13) and sheet assembly (12).

  10. Loosen clamp (17) and disconnect hose (16).

  14. Remove bolts (24) and fan guard (26).

  15. Cut cable straps (25) and disconnect harness assembly (27).

  16. Remove belt (29). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, " Belt - Inspect/Adjust/Replace" to remove and install the belt.

  17. Remove bolts (28). Relocate fan (30).

  18. Remove clips (34) and disconnect hose (31).

  19. Cut cable straps (35).

  20. Remove bolts (33). Relocate compressor (32).

  21. Disconnect cable assemblies (36), (37), and (38).

  22. Disconnect harness assembly (39).

  23. Disconnect cable assembly (40) and cable assembly (41) from the electric starter motor.

  24. Remove bolts (42). Relocate bracket assembly (43).

  25. Disconnect hose (45), hose (46), and hose (48).

  26. Remove clips (47) and disconnect hoses (44).

  27. Remove clip (50) and bolt (52).

  28. Disconnect hose assembly (49) and hose assembly (51). Reposition hose assembly (49) and hose assembly (51) out of the way.

  29. Disconnect hose assembly (53).

  30. Cut cable straps (55), cable straps (56), and disconnect harness assembly (54).

  31. Cut cable straps (58) and disconnect cable assembly (57).

  32. Disconnect ground strap (62).

  33. Remove clip (63).

  34. Cut cable straps (60). Disconnect harness assembly (59) and harness assembly (61). Reposition harness assembly (59) out of the way.

  35. Position oil filter housing (64) on top of engine (65).

  36. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device in order to remove engine (65). The weight of engine (65) is approximately 757 kg (1670 lb).

  37. Remove bolts (66) and engine (65).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install engine (65) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten bolts (66) to torque of 520 ± 70 N·m (384 ± 52 lb ft).
