This test is reserved for identifying conditions related to the programming of the ECM or a signal failure. In this instance the ECM is receiving information that is erratic, intermittent, or incorrect. A failure of the internal program of the ECM is associated with the test as well. The fault messages displayed in Cat ET or via the operator monitor include "programmed parameter fault" or some type of machine monitoring failure.
The following diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) are associated with the configuration parameters for the Implement ECM.
Implement ECM (MID 82) | ||
---|---|---|
DTC | Description | System Response |
268-2 | Programmed Parameter Fault : Data Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect | The Implement ECM has determined that a configuration parameter is not programmed. The ECM will display the parameter causing the problem via Cat® ET. |
2183-13 | Payload Monitoring System : Calibration Required | System must be calibrated before operating. |
Possible Causes for a DTC 268-2 are:
- A configuration parameter on the ECM is blank or invalid.
The Payload Load Control System (PCS) provides an accurate weight of the material that is loaded into the bucket of the wheel loader. The PCS is controlled by the Implement ECM. The PCS operator commands to the Monitoring System Display are communicated via the Cat Data Link. The Implement ECM acts on the PCS command accordingly.
Possible Causes for a DTC 2183-13 are:
- The Implement ECM has never been calibrated.
- The Implement ECM has lost all of the permanent information on the setup of the machine.
Diagnostic Trouble Code Procedure
Troubleshooting Test Steps | Values | Results |
---|---|---|
1. Verify The Configuration Of The Implement ECM A. Use Cat ET to view the diagnostic code. The parameter causing the code will be displayed. Reset the configuration for the identified parameter as appropriate for the machine. |
The Implement ECM has no blank or invalid configurations. |
OK - The Implement ECM has no blank or invalid configurations. Verify that the new configuration has corrected the problem before attempting to operate the machine. STOP NOT OK - The Implement ECM has blank or invalid configurations. Repair: Repeat this procedure. If the diagnostic code remains active or repeatedly activated and no cause can be found, flash the ECM with the latest version of software. Ensure that you have the latest version of software for your specific machine and ECM. Refer to the Troubleshooting, " ECM Software - Install " section of this manual for the correct procedure. If the problem is still present after flashing the latest software to the ECM, contact the technical communicator for a possible consultation with Caterpillar. STOP |
Payload Control System (PCS) and Calibration
Illustration 1 | g03376957 |
Illustration of the Payload Control System Store Switch electrical connections |
The PCS Store Switch is installed on the machines with the Payload Control System attachment.
When the Payload Control System is active, the PCS Store Switch is used to store the current bucket information in the Implement ECM memory. The switch is also used to reset the current bucket weight to zero.
When the PCS Store Switch is pressed, the ECM receives a signal that the input circuit is grounded. The Implement ECM response will depend on the PCS mode that is currently active.
The lift position sensor provides a PWM input signal to the Implement ECM. A specific duty cycle for each sensor correlates with a specific position of the lift linkage. The ECM uses this information to determine the position of the implement for control of the Payload Control System. Each sensor is an identical hall effect sensor that operates at a frequency of 500 ± 100 Hz.
Lift Cylinder Head End (HE) and Rod End (RE) Pressure Sensor
The Lift Cylinder Head End and Rod Cylinder End Pressure Sensors are installed on machines with a Payload Control System (PCS). The sensors are pressure rated and operate at approximately 500 Hz. The input signal data from the sensors are used in the machine payload calculation.
Prior to calibrating the Implement ECM a review of the Payload Calibration System is advised. For instruction on the operation of the PCS, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8551, "Payload Control System (PCS) (If Equipped)" and Systems Operation, Troubleshooting, Testing and Adjusting, UENR0359, "K-Series Monitoring System"
CALIBRATE THE SYSTEM
- Calibrate the system.
Reference: See the Systems Operation, KENR5803, "Payload System".
- Clear the diagnostic code from the memory.
Reference: See the Troubleshooting, "Using the Operator Monitor to Determine Diagnostic Codes" and the Troubleshooting, "Using Caterpillar Electronic Technician to Determine Diagnostic Codes" sections in this manual.
