- Wheel Loader:
- 966K (S/N: PBG1-UP; TFS1-UP)
- 972K (S/N: PEM1-UP; Z4W1-UP)
Description of Change: An improved front harness is now used on the machines described in this article. This upgrade will improve the durability of this component.
Adaptable To: The improved 365-8768 Front Harness As is available for the effectivity listed in the table that follows.

Locator tape positions on the front harness with reference to 40 pin connector (AA) 242 ± 10 mm (9.53 ± 0.4 inch) (BB) 479 ± 10 mm (18.86 ± 0.4 inch) (AL) Use 30 mm (1.18 inch) wide orange locator tape (BL) Use 30 mm (1.18 inch) wide orange locator tape (DD) 40 pin connector of the front harness |
Remove the existing harness and replace with a new harness (same part number). Tape markings on the harness indicate clamping points.
Illustration 1 shows the locator tape positions on the front harness with reference to the 40 pin connector.
- Measure and confirm that the first orange locator tape (AL) is centered at 242 ± 10 mm (9.53 ± 0.4 inch) mark from the back of the 40 pin connector (DD). Measure and confirm that the second orange locator tape (BL) is centered at 479 ± 10 mm (18.86 ± 0.4 inch) mark from the center of the first locator tape (AL). Location (BL) is also 721 mm (28.4 inch) from the back of the 40 pin connector of the harness.
- Illustration 2 will show front clamp locations and back clamp locations of the harness at the machine hitch area of 966K and 972K Wheel Loaders.
- Confirm that the frame clamps across the machine hitch secure the harness on the second locator tape (BL) and the first locator tape (AL) on the rear frame. Locator tapes should not be visible after frame clamps are torqued down. Frame clamps should be centered on the locator tapes.
- Measure and confirm that there is 30 mm (1.18 inch) minimum gap to a 45 mm (1.77 inch) maximum gap (CC) between hitch bore boss top surface on the engine end frame and the harness. Refer to Illustration 2 for details. This action will ensure enough slack in the harness routing going across machine hitch in order to protect the harness from stretching too much as machine articulates.
