Prevent Freezing of the Cooling System During Shipping and Storage {1063}

Usage:

3516C T2X
Engine:
3516C (S/N: T2X1-UP)

The upper 286-4960 Connector for the aftercooler system's elbow may crack in freezing temperatures. If the aftercooler core is not fully drained before transportation or before storage, the water that is retained can freeze. This can cause the elbow to crack.

Failure to drain the aftercooler may result in damage to the aftercooler during storage or transportation. Follow the recommended procedure for draining the aftercooler.

    NOTICE

    Dispose of used engine coolant properly or recycle. Various methods have been proposed to reclaim used coolant for reuse in engine cooling systems. The full distillation procedure is the only method acceptable by Caterpillar to reclaim the used coolant.

  1. Remove the aftercooler drain plugs. Allow the coolant to drain.

  1. Clean the aftercooler drain plugs. Install the aftercooler drain plugs.

For information regarding the disposal and the recycling of used coolant, consult your Caterpillar dealer or consult Caterpillar Dealer Service Tools:

If an engine is out of operation and if use of the engine is not planned, take special precautions for storage. If the engine will be stored for more than one month, a complete protection procedure is recommended.

For more detailed information on engine storage, refer to Special Instruction, SEHS9031, "Storage Procedure For Caterpillar Products".

Your Caterpillar dealer can assist in preparing the engine for extended storage periods.
