Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Remove".
2. Remove the starting motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Starting Motor - Remove".
3. Remove the barring group. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Barring Group - Remove and Install".
4. Remove the camshaft drive gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft Drive Gear - Remove".
5. Remove the crankshaft rear seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal - Remove".

Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "General Information (Reference Material)" for more information.

1. Remove the bolts that hold the engine oil pan to the rear housing.

2. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the top of rear housing (2). The weight of rear housing (2) is approximately 210 kg (465 lb).

Note: Ensure that all the bolts have been removed from the inside and the outside of the rear housing before you remove the rear housing.

3. Remove bolts (1) that hold rear housing (2) to the cylinder block. Carefully move rear housing (2) away from the cylinder block.

4. Remove the gasket and the O-ring seals from the cylinder block.
