Improvements for the Tandem Couplings {3252, 4450}

Usage:

G3516 4EK
Engine:
G3512 (S/N: 7NJ1-UP)
G3516 (S/N: 8LD1-UP; 4EK1-UP)
G3516B (S/N: 7EZ1-UP)
G3524 (S/N: 7SZ1-UP)
G3532 (S/N: 8BZ1-UP)

Improved bolt retention has been made to the following flexible couplings:

In order to reduce the high stress between the bolt head and the coupling shaft, 5P-8839 Hard Washers have been added to the rear 5N-2317 Bolts bolts that retain the shaft.

4C-5592 Anti-Seize Compound has been added for use during assembly in order to improve the bolt torque. The anti-seize compound will improve the ability to disassemble the parts during service.

A new procedure for bolt tightening is used for the rear 5N-2317 Bolts. This will improve the clamping force by more evenly distributing the load.

Flexible coupling

(1) Bolt

(2) Washer

The following procedure must be performed when you tighten the rear bolts.

  1. Lubricate the face of washers (2) and the threads of bolts (1) prior to assembly with anti-seize compound.

  1. Tighten the bolts in a star pattern.

    Torque ... 50 N·m (37 lb ft)

  1. Tighten the bolts in a star pattern.

    Torque ... 400 ± 50 N·m (295 ± 37 lb ft)

  1. Turn the bolts clockwise by the additional degrees.

    Degrees ... 180 ± 15

New 5N-2317 Bolts are recommended when the shaft is serviced.

Refer to Special Instruction, REHS0445, "Alignment Procedures For G3500 Tandem Generator Sets" when the flexible coupling is serviced or when the engines are moved.
