The program is set up in order to calibrate the directional control for a given machine. The program will also provide feedback if errors occur during the process of calibration.
Personal injury or death can result from not engaging the parking brake. Transmission engagement alone will not prevent machine from rolling when the engine is stopped. |
Required Equipment
The following equipment is required in order to perform this calibration with the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) service tool:
- Laptop computer with Cat ET
- Communications adapter
- ET 20011A or a later version
Calibration Procedure
The steps of the calibration procedure follow:
- Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location.
Note: Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine or in the operator's sight.
- Set the parking brake.
- Verify that the speed of the engine is 0 rpm.
- Connect the cable (communications) to the laptop computer and the Cat ET service connector on the machine.
- Open the Cat ET program.
- Click on "Service" in the main tool bar.
- Click on "Calibration".
- Click on "FNR Shifter Sensor Calibration".
- Place the shift lever of the machine in the F position.

- Place the shift lever of the machine in the NEUTRAL position.

- Place the shift lever of the machine in the R position.

- Follow the instructions that are on the screen. This will repeat the process that is described above.
- The screen that is shown in Illustration 5 will be displayed after the calibration has been successfully completed.
If the calibration is not successful, repeat the entire calibration.
If any errors occur, a reason and a code will appear in the window. Report any error codes to the technical communicator at your Caterpillar dealership for additional instructions.
