Start By:

  1. Remove the radiator and the guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Radiator and Guard - Remove".
  2. Remove the power train guards. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Power train Guards - Remove".
  3. Remove the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove".
  4. Remove the rear drive shaft. Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Rear) - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Oil Filter - Change".

  1. Drain the brake oil cooler into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil (Brake Cooling) - Change".

  1. Remove panel (1). Repeat this step for the opposite side of the machine

  1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to support (3). The weight of support (3) is approximately 109 kg (240 lb). Remove bolts (4). Remove support (3) .

  1. Repeat Steps 3 and 5 for opposite side.

  1. Disconnect harness assemblies (7). Remove ether injector assembly (6). Position ether injector assembly (6) on the engine.

  1. Remove bracket (39). Remove only the bottom row of bolts (38) from the firewall.

  1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the hydraulic tank group and firewall plate group (40). The weight of hydraulic tank group and firewall plate group (40) is approximately 862 kg (1900 lb).

  1. Remove bolts (41). Repeat for the remaining four pillars. Remove bolts (42) from both sides of the platform. Remove the hydraulic tank group and firewall plate group (40) as a unit.
