Accugrade Software Enabled Attachment Is Difficult to Install on D6N Track-Type Tractor{7220, 7620}

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

The AccuGrade Software Enabled Attachment (SEA) has been difficult to install on certain Track-Type Tractors. Some Electronic Control Modules (ECMs) do not automatically override the Temporary AccuGrade SEA installation status when the Permanent AccuGrade SEA is installed.

Solution

The machine ECM requires a valid Product ID. The Temporary AccuGrade SEA status must be manually set to "Not Installed" prior to requesting and entering the Factory Passwords for the Permanent AccuGrade SEA to be installed.

Cat Electronic Technician (ET) is required for this procedure. If you do not have Cat ET installed on your PC, obtain a current valid copy and install on your Personal Computer (PC).

AccuGrade SEA Installation Status Verification

  1. Ensure PC is connected to the machine through a communications adapter.

  1. Key the machine on.

  1. Open Cat ET.

  1. Cat ET will attempt to connect to components and Electronic Control Modules (ECMs) communicating on the data lines.

  1. A list of available ECMs will be displayed.

  1. If the Product ID has been entered into the ECM, select "Machine Control D6N" or appropriate machine-specific implement ECM and click on "OK" and skip to section: "Installation of Implement Control Software Enabled Attachments (SEA)".

  1. If the Product ID has not been entered, select "Machine Control Generic" ECM and click on "OK".

  1. Select "Machine Control Generic" ECM.

  1. "Machine Control Generic" will show as ECM selected.

  1. Select "Configuration Tool" icon.

  1. Select "Expand All" button at bottom of screen.

  1. Click on the Product ID cell for "Value". The row will highlight and the "Change" button will become available at the bottom of the screen. Select the "Change" button. The following box will pop up.

  1. Enter the serial number of the machine.

  1. Select the "OK" button. The following box will pop up.

  1. Select "Yes". The following box will pop up.

  1. Select "OK".

    Note: If the below message is encountered, ensure that the ECM is updated to the most recent version of software available, and repeat the process for entering the Product ID. Cat ET will restart and reconnect to ECM.

  1. If the Product ID is entered, continue process to select the ECM and install AccuGrade.

  1. Select "Machine Control D6N" or appropriate machine-specific implement ECM from menu on left side of screen.

  1. Select the "Configuration Tool" icon.

  1. Note the status of the following items in the "Machine Settings" section.

    • "AccuGrade System Installation Status".

    • "AccuGrade Temporary Installation Status".

    • "AccuGrade Temporary Installation Time Remaining".

  1. In this case, the Permanent AccuGrade SEA or the Temporary AccuGrade SEA have not been installed, and the Temporary SEA will be disabled after the ECM has been set to "Installed" for 3000 minutes of service.

Note: It may be necessary to request and enter Factory Passwords to change the status of the "AccuGrade Temporary Installation" SEA to "Installed" or "Not Installed" once the machine has accumulated over 50 hours of service.

Exercise caution when selecting the Machine Setting prior to making value changes. The Factory Password Request screens may look similar to one another.

Charges may occur from requesting Factory Passwords to change the permanent "AccuGrade System Installation Status" to "Installed".

  1. To install the "Temporary SEA" or "Temporary Installation", click the row for "AccuGrade Temporary Installation Status" and select the "Change" button at the bottom of the screen. The following box will pop up.

  1. "Installed" is the default value that is populated. when this window is opened, you may press "Cancel" to avoid installing the "AccuGrade Free Use" if desired.

  1. Select "Installed" from the drop-down list by using the arrow at the right side of the box.

  1. Select "OK".

  1. Select "Yes" to confirm that you want to change the installation status.

  1. The screen is updated with "AccuGrade Temporary Installation Status" as "Installed".

  1. AccuGrade is now installed for a limited time. The Temporary SEA will be disabled after the ECM has been set to "Installed" for 3000 minutes of service.

    Note: It may be necessary to request and enter Factory Passwords to change the status of the "AccuGrade Temporary Installation" SEA to "Installed" or "Not Installed" once the machine has accumulated over 50 hours of service.

Installation of the Permanent (Full) SEA for Unlimited AccuGrade Use

The "AccuGrade Temporary Installation Status" of "Installed" will prevent the Permanent "AccuGrade" SEA from being installed. Use the following procedure for installation of the Permanent SEA.

  1. Ensure that the "AccuGrade Temporary Installation Status" is "Not Installed".

  1. If "AccuGrade Temporary Installation Status" is "Installed", change to "Not Installed" by selecting the "AccuGrade Temporary Installation Status" row as shown above and select the "Change" button at the bottom of the screen.

  1. Follow your procedure for obtaining SEA passwords. The "Save to File" button will save the necessary data for requesting the factory passwords to a file if communication is limited or not available at the location of the machine.

    Note: Do not make any configuration changes until passwords are obtained and the rest of this procedure is complete.

  1. Enter Passwords upon receipt into the fields for Factory Password #1 and Factory Password #2 and select "OK".

  1. "AccuGrade System Installation Status" now shows "Installed".

  1. Disconnect ECM using "Disconnect" icon.

  1. Power down by turning off the machine key switch.

  1. If the machine is keyed off without disconnecting Cat ET, communication will be lost and the above screen will be displayed.

Confirm the Installation is Successful

  1. Ensure PC is connected to the machine through a communications adapter. Key the machine on.

  1. Select the "Connect" icon.

  1. Cat ET will detect and initialize ECM.

  1. Select "Machine Control D6N" or appropriate machine-specific implement ECM and click on "OK". The following screen will load.

  1. Select the "Configuration Tool" icon.

  1. Select the "Expand All" Button at the bottom of the screen.

  1. AccuGrade system installation status is "Installed".

  1. Once the Permanent SEA has been installed, the AccuGrade Temporary Installation Time Remining is set to "0 min", and AccuGrade Temporary Installation Status is set to "Unavailable".

  1. The AccuGrade SEA is now installed and available for use.

  1. Select the "Disconnect" icon at the top of the screen.

  1. Select "Yes" Cat ET will close.

    Note: A machine solenoid and automatic valve calibration will need to be completed for proper AccuGrade operation and performance. Refer the appropriate instructions provided with the AccuGrade system for details regarding this procedure.
