Vibration Sensor - Calibrate

Usage:

UPS 250 APZ
Calibration of the Vibration Sensor is necessary:

  • Initial start-up of the engine

  • Replacement of the "Comm/Accel" Board

Note: If the firmware is newer than version 3.22, calibrate the sensor. The firmware should be the newest version.

The "RPS Advance Setpoint Calibration" must be performed whenever the Comm/Accel Assembly is replaced.

Note: Calibrate the vibration sensors before performing this procedure. If the firmware is newer than version 3.22, calibrate the sensor. The firmware should be the newest version.

  1. Place the keyswitch to the cabinet of the flywheel in the BYPASS position.

  2. Verify that vacuum is in the green zone of the telemetry tile.

  3. Verify that the temperatures are reasonable. Consider the ambient conditions and the state of the UPS.

Note: Temperatures may be slightly out of a reasonable range. Temperatures may depend on environmental conditions.

  4. Verify that the RPM of the flywheel is zero.

  5. Select "RPS Advance Setpoint" from the "Calibrate" menu item.

If the temperature of the rotor is less than 30 °C (86.0000 °F), the preheat cycle will start. During this cycle, the rotor will spin. If the rotor does not spin, the system will not start the "RPS rough calibration". Input contactor "K1" will close and the static switch will turn on. The DC bus will rise. In addition, the flywheel inverter can be heard. The flywheel spins at a relatively slow speed for this part of the calibration. This portion of the rough calibration is completed.

Note: Call Technical Support for a password in order to bypass the preheat cycle.

    • The system will preheat if the system is cold.

    • The system will start running.

    • The System will begin to calibrate. The system will send a message to the text view.

    • When the rough calibration is completed, the system develops a message.

  6. Place the keyswitch to the cabinet of the flywheel in the ON-LINE position.

The input contactor "K1" will close and the Static Switch will turn on. The DC bus will rise and the output contactor "K2" will close. In addition, the flywheel inverter can be heard. The flywheel will spin up to 7640 rpm. The system will enable the fine calibration for the "RPS Advance Setpoint" automatically. This portion of the calibration is completed in approximately 1 hour. The flywheel will ramp up to 7700 RPM when the calibration has been completed. Calibration will be complete in 30 minutes to a hour.

  7. Click on "Connection" on the menu bar. Select "Disconnect" in order to end the calibration in UPSView. Flywheel Telemetry will stop being received.

  8. Unplug the "RS232/RS485" cable from the "System Input/Output" and "Isolation Board" (1) for SMS. Unplug the "RS232/RS485" cable from the "System Input/Output" (1) and "PCI Board" for MMS. Reinstall the sheet metal. Close the doors for proper air flow to the system. To end the UPSView, Click "Connection" on the Menu Bar and Select "Disconnect". You will stop receiving the Flywheel Telemetry.

------ WARNING! ------

When servicing or repairing electric power generation equipment:

Make sure the unit is off-line (disconnected from utility and/or other generators power service), and either locked out or tagged DO NOT OPERATE. Remove all fuses.

  1. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR9988, "SMS Internal and Maintenance Bypass" in order to place the UPS into the internal Bypass.

Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR9988, "MMS Internal and Maintenance Bypass" in order to place the UPS into the internal Bypass.

  2. Connect a personal computer to the port for the system "RS232/RS485". The port is located on the "System Input/Output Board" Board.

Note: Make sure that the jumper "Jmp 1" (2) on the System Input/Output Board is in the correct position. The lower side is "RS232" and the higher side is "RS485".
