Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the rocker shaft and pushrods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Shaft and Pushrod - Remove".

2. Remove the fuel manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Control Manidfold (ARD) - Remove".

3. Remove the electronic control module. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electronic Control Module - Remove and Install".

1. Remove bolts (2) and (4). Remove clips (3) and (5). Remove tube assemblies (1).

2. Disconnect harness assemblies (6) and (7) from the speed sensors.

3. Remove bolts (8). Remove lifter group (9).

4. Place identification marks on each lifter in order to identify the proper location on the side cover for installation.

   Note: Ensure that the sleeves of the side covers remain in the side covers.

5. Remove bolts (10) and the dowels that hold lifter arms (11) and lifter shaft (12) to each side cover. Remove gasket (13).

1. Apply Tooling (A) to the gasket surface of the side cover. Install gasket (13).

2. Install lifter arms (11) on lifter shaft (12).

3. Position lifter shaft (12) over the dowels on the side cover. Ensure that the oil holes in the lifter shaft are facing the side cover. Apply Tooling (B) on the threads of bolts (10) that hold lifter shaft (12) to the side cover. Install bolts (10). Tighten bolts (10) to a torque of 13 ± 3 N·m (115 ± 27 lb in). Tighten the two center bolts. Then tighten the end bolts.

4. Lubricate the lifters with clean engine oil.

5. Install lifter group (9). Install bolts (8). Tighten bolts (8) in a numerical sequence. Tighten bolts (8) to a torque of 28 ± 7 N·m (21 ± 5 lb ft).

6. Connect harness assemblies (6) and (7) to the speed sensors.

7. Install tube assemblies (1). Install clips (3) and (5). Install bolts (2) and (4).

End By:

1. Install the electronic control module. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electronic Control Module - Remove and Install".

2. Install the fuel manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Control Manidfold (ARD) - Install".

3. Install the rocker shaft and pushrods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Shaft and Pushrod - Install".
