Assembly Procedure

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

1. Steps 1.a through 1.d are for the assembly of lever assembly (7) .

   Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury. To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.

   1. Apply Tooling (B) to nuts (39) .

   2. Install spring (40) and washer (41) onto one pin (42) .

   3. Install pins (42). Make sure that Dimension (X) is 12.15 ± 0.06 mm (0.478 ± 0.002 inch). Install nuts (39). Tighten nuts (39) to a torque of 12 ± 3 N·m (9 ± 2 lb ft).

   4. Install detent assembly (38) and install bolts (37) to lever assembly (7). Tighten bolts (37) to a torque of 12 ± 3 N·m (9 ± 2 lb ft).

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury. To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.

2. Install plugs (18) and the O-ring seals in pilot valve (17). Tighten plugs (18) to a torque of 12 ± 3 N·m (106 ± 27 lb in).

3. Use Steps 3.a through 3.h in order to assemble cartridge assemblies (15) .

   1. Install orifice (33) in spool (25). Tighten orifice (33) to a torque of 2.5 ± 0.5 N·m (22 ± 4 lb in).

   2. Compress spring (27) on spool (25) in order to install retainers (26) .

   3. Install spool (25) in cage (31) .

   4. Install plunger (22), O-ring seal (23), and ball (24) in adapter (28) .

   5. Assemble adapter (28) to cage (31). Tighten cage (31) in adapter (28) to a torque of 15 ± 2 N·m (11 ± 1 lb ft).

   6. Install spring (34), stop (35), and O-ring seal (36) in cage (31). Tighten stop (35) to a torque of 6 ± 1 N·m (53 ± 9 lb in).

   7. Install spring (21) and retainer (20) onto plunger (22). Compress spring (21) and use Tooling (A) in order to install retaining ring (19) .

   8. Install O-ring seals (29), (30), and (32) .

4. Install cartridge assemblies (15) in pilot valve (17) .

5. Install plate assembly (14), grommets (11), adapter (9), and O-ring seal (10). Tighten adapter (9) to a torque of 45 ± 5 N·m (33 ± 4 lb ft).

6. Install plates (6), retainer (1), and coil assembly (12) .

7. Install lever assembly (7), plate (2), and bolts (4). Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 20 ± 3 N·m (15 ± 2 lb ft).

8. Install boot (16), rod (8), and nut (13). Tighten nut (13) to a torque of 45 ± 5 N·m (33 ± 4 lb ft).

9. Install handle (3) and screws (5) .

End By: Install the pilot control valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Pilot Operated Hydraulic Control (Joystick) - Install".
