Torque Converter Stall (3FWD) - Test

Usage:

993K Z9K
The torque converter stall test helps determine if the engine is producing the correct power output. This stall test is used in many diagnostic procedures.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from machine movement.

When tests and adjustments are made to the transmission or the torque converter, the parking brake must be disengaged.

To prevent movement of the machine and personal injury perform the procedure that follows.

  1. Move the machine to a level area.

  2. Engage the parking brake.

  3. Shift the transmission to the NEUTRAL position.

  4. Start the engine. Warm the transmission oil to a normal operating temperature of 95° ± 20°C (203° ± 36°F).

  5. Place the work tool flat on the ground.

  10. Select "Third Gear Stall Spd" from the "Stall Checks" menu.

  11. Follow the steps that are displayed on the screen in order to complete the test.

    NOTICE

To ensure that the transmission oil does not overheat do not keep the torque converter in the stall condition for more than 30 seconds. After the torque converter stall test allow the transmission oil to cool before stopping the engine.

  12. After the test is completed, allow the engine coolant and the transmission oil to cool. Stop the engine.

The torque converter stall speed should be 1830 ± 50 rpm.

If the torque converter stall speed is above the specified range, the engine power output could be too high or the torque converter could have excess slippage.

If the torque converter stall speed is below the specified range, the engine may not be developing full power or there may be an excessive parasitic load on the engine.
