The flywheel clutch group that is on this machine is mounted between engine flywheel (5) and the main rotor shaft of the generator. The clutch is applied by the force of spring (4). The force of spring (4) compresses friction disc (2) between reaction plate (1) and piston (3).

The friction disc is designed to slip momentarily in order to eliminate high torque spikes between the engine and the generator. Torque spikes may occur at engine start-up and torque spikes may occur during engine shutdown. The flywheel clutch group reduces torsional stress between the engine and the generator.

The friction disc is lubricated with engine oil during normal operating conditions.
