An Improved Spring is Now Used in the Ripper Control {5063}

Usage:

Track-Type Tractor:
D10R (S/N: AKT1-UP)
D11R (S/N: AAF1-UP; 7PZ1-UP; 9XR1-UP)

Description of Change: A new spring is used in the Ripper Control to center the control levers. The new spring that is made from a stronger material has a better surface finish. The improvements will extend the service life of the component.

Adaptable To: The new 245-3856 Spring is effective with the following Track-Type Tractors:

  • AAF214

  • 7PZ792

  • AKT530

The new 245-3856 Spring is adaptable to the following Track-Type Tractors:

  • AAF1-213

  • 7PZ1-791

  • AKT1-529

  • 9XR1-UP

Refer to the procedure below in order to replace the former 183-3205 Spring with the 245-3856 Spring in the 183-3208 Hydraulic Control Gp. The springs can be distinguished by the color. The 183-3205 Springs are silver to light gray in appearance. The new 245-3856 Springs are dark gray to black in appearance.

Procedure for Installation of the Spring

  1. Make sure that pin (1) is installed on the shaft to dimension (C). Dimension (C) is 11 ± .2 mm (0.4331 ± 0.0079 inch).

  1. Make sure that pin (2) is installed to dimension (B). Dimension (B) is 8.5 ± .2 mm (0.3346 ± 0.0079 inch).

  1. Make sure that pin (3) is installed on the shaft to dimension (F). Dimension (F) is 11 ± .2 mm (0.4331 ± 0.0079 inch). (Spring (5) is held by pin (3) .)

  1. Make sure that pin (4) is installed to dimension (E). Dimension (E) is 8.5 ± .2 mm (0.3346 ± 0.0079 inch).

    Note: A properly installed spring will be preloaded. If the spring is not preloaded, then the spring is not installed properly.

  1. Install spring (5) on shaft (6). See Illustration 4. Make sure that spring end (G) is on the left side of pin (3) and make sure that spring end (H) is on the right side of pin (3).

  1. Install shaft (6) with spring (5). Make sure that spring end (H) is on the left side of pin (2) and make sure that spring end (G) is on the right side of pin (2).

  1. When shaft (6) is installed into the counterbored hole, make sure that cam (7) does not extend above the bottom of the counterbored hole.

It is advisable to recalibrate the ripper control handle after installing the new spring. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, SENR9457, "Calibration for the Ripper Control Handle" for the calibration procedure.
