  • Service Magazine SEPD0726, 03 2004, "Provide Proper Documentation of Returned Parts within the Warranty Claim". Disregard this article. Refer to the article that follows.

Proper documentation is required when a warranty claim is submitted. There has been an increase in warranty claims that have been submitted with incorrect part numbers. Many times, the replacement part number is used instead of the failed part number. Incorrect identification of the failed parts will cause erroneous data to be supplied to the factory.

Perform a search of the failed part at the group level if you are not sure of the correct part number. In order to determine the correct part number of any suspect component, use the following steps.

    • Determine the component that needs to be replaced.

    • Access the As Shipped Consist in SIS Web in order to find the group level print for that component. The individual part numbers can be found on the group level print.

Do not use the replacement part number. Ensure that the failed part number is used when a warranty claim is submitted.

Do not use SP part numbers in the warranty claim. Only use SP part numbers when Caterpillar format part numbers are not used on the product that is being serviced. Refer to, SEBD0850, "Caterpillar Product Service Reporting Codes For SIMS and Service Claims Use" for the proper guidelines.

Note: Accuracy of this information is very important in order to drive the proper response to product issues.

Refer to the "Caterpillar Warranty Bulletin" for instructions on completing warranty claims. There is also a web site on the Caterpillar Intranet that contains all the information about the "Caterpillar Warranty Bulletins".

Note: This is a secure web site. The entry to this web site will require a user ID and a password from Corporate Web Security.

Access the web site at "Https://nacd.cat.com". Follow the instructions below for entering a warranty claim.

    • Enter the above web site.

    • Click on "Product Support Fullfillment"

    • Click on "Warranty"

    • Click on "Engine & TEPS Guide"

    • Enter the proper "Warranty Guide".

    • Click on "Warranty Bulletins" that is labelled "Instructions for Completing Claims".
