AD45 and AE40 II Underground Articulated Trucks Caterpillar

Parking Brake Manual Release

Usage:

AD45 BKZ

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from a brake malfunction. Do not operate the machine if the brake was applied due to a malfunction of the oil system or the brake.

Correct any problem before attempting to operate the machine.

----------------------

Note: Certain Caterpillar machines may be equipped with an optional Automatic Brake Application (ABA) system. The ABA system warns the operator of an impending brake application (low transmission oil pressure) and engages the parking brake if the pressure further decreases (for example, if the engine stalled). If your machine is equipped with the optional ABA system, a loop wire needs to be connected to the wiring harness of a transmission oil pressure switch to enable the brake release function to operate.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: The machine batteries must be fully charged for the operation of the brake release motor. If the battery charge is low, connect an external 24 volt DC power supply.

Note: Perform Steps 1 and 10 of the following procedure only to machines fitted with the optional Automatic Brake Application (ABA) system.

  1. Disconnect the transmission oil pressure switch for brake application at the wiring connector. Connect loop wire (1) between the EL331 blue wire and the EL330 grey wire of the transmission harness, as shown.

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.

  1. Turn engine start switch (2) to the ON position.

  1. Push down on the top half of operator mode scroll/brake release switch (3) to activate the brake release motor.

  1. When the braking system has full oil pressure, apply the service brake.

Note: Hold switch (3) in the ON position until towing is completed.

  1. Move the parking brake control to the OFF position. The parking brake is now disengaged.

Note: Do not disengage the parking brake until the machine has been connected to the towing machine. You must be sure that the towing machine will hold the machine.

Note: The service brakes can be used to stop the machine when the machine has oil pressure. Use the service brakes to control the machine when the machine is being towed.

  1. When towing has been completed, apply the service brakes. Engage the parking brake. Release switch (3).

  1. Turn engine start switch (2) to the OFF position.

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  1. Remove the loop wire and reconnect the wiring connectors of the transmission oil pressure switch for brake application and the transmission wiring harness.

NOTICE

Inspect the machine thoroughly. Remove the loop wire (if fitted) and repair any damage before returning the machine to operation.
