(1) Priority valve group (2) Surface for mounting to the bevel gear case (3) Torque converter inlet relief valve |
The priority valve group is a unit that includes the priority valve and the torque converter inlet relief valve. There is no adjustment for the torque converter inlet relief valve. Malfunctioning valves must be replaced.
Test for Cold Oil Start-up
The torque converter inlet relief valve prevents damage to the torque converter when the engine is started and the oil is cold. At that time, the torque converter inlet relief valve limits the maximum oil pressure to the torque converter. The torque converter inlet relief valve is not designed to limit pressure after normal operating temperatures are reached.
Note: Do not allow the machine to reach the normal operating temperature before you measure the pressure. Make observations based on the measurement when the oil is cold.
- Attach the gauge to pressure tap (M) .

- Start the engine and run the engine at HIGH IDLE.
- Observe the pressure on the gauge. The pressure should not exceed 895 kPa (130 psi).
Pressure Test for the Torque Converter Inlet under Normal Operating Temperatures
Note: This test is designed to measure the torque converter inlet pressure. This test is not designed to measure the pressure setting of the torque converter inlet relief valve. However, a malfunctioning inlet relief valve can cause the pressure to be out of the specification. See the Troubleshooting section of this manual for more information.
- Attach the gauge to pressure tap (M) .
- Warm the transmission oil to operating temperature.
- Run the engine at HIGH IDLE.
- Observe the pressure on the gauge. The pressure should be 700 ± 70 kPa (100 ± 10 psi).
