Product Identification Number To Replace Serial Number On Earthmoving Equipment{7557}

Usage:

In the future, earthmoving equipment manufacturers will use a product identification number (PIN) to identify their products. This will give common terminology for the identification number throughout the earthmoving industry. Caterpillar will also use the PIN, instead of serial numbers, on all powered equipment that is designed for an operator. The PIN will have the same prefix and continue in the same sequence as the current serial numbers. Caterpillar products that are not designed for an operator (scrapers, transmissions, engines, etc.) will continue to use serial numbers.

The PIN will be used on two different plates on the machines. One is the "Product Identification Number Plate," the other is the "Service Information Numbers Plate." These plates will be used on some models in the near future. Eventually they will be used on all powered machines designed for an operator.

Remember, the PIN identifies the machine in the same way as the current serial number. The PIN, should be used in all reports, where applicable.
