Required Tools
Tool  Part Number  Part Description  Qty
8S-2269  Ridge Reamer

Start By:

  1. Remove the cylinder head. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cylinder Head - Remove".

  2. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".

  3. Remove the oil suction tube. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Remove".

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Position the piston that is being removed in the bottom center position.

  2. Use tool (A) in order to remove the carbon from the inner surface of the cylinder bore.

  3. Ensure that the connecting rod (1) and the cap (4) are correctly marked to the cylinder.

Note: Matched identification marks (X) on the connecting rod and the cap ensure that the pistons and connecting rods are installed into the correct cylinder in the cylinder block.

  4. Remove the nuts (5) from the connecting rod bolts (2).

  5. Remove the cap (4) with the bearing shell (3).

Note: Use tape or rubber tubing on connecting rod bolts (2) to protect the crankshaft journals. The sharp edges of the connecting rod bolts could damage the crankshaft journals.

  6. Push the piston and connecting rod (1) away from the crankshaft until the piston rings are out of the cylinder bore. Remove the piston and connecting rod from the cylinder block.

Note: Make an identification mark underneath the piston on the pin boss in order to identify the position on the piston for installation. Always mark the front pin boss.

  7. Remove the connecting rod bearings (3) from connecting rod (1) and cap (4).

  8. Keep the matched connecting rod (1) and cap (4) together.

  9. Repeat steps 1 through 8 in order to remove the remaining pistons and connecting rods.
