Fuel Transfer Pump - Remove and Install

Usage:

994D 3TZ

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
  2. Connect the frame lock link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Frame Lock Link - Separate and Connect".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.

Note: Install caps and plugs on all openings in order to prevent dirt or debris from entering the system. Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Note: For easier assembly, mark all hose assemblies, tube assemblies, wire harnesses and cables for identification purposes.

  1. Open the lower door assembly on the left side of the machine in order to access the fuel transfer pump. Disconnect hose assembly (1), tube assembly (2), and hose assembly (3) from fuel transfer pump (4) .

  1. Remove bolt (5) and the washer that secures clamp assembly (6) and tube assembly (2) to the bracket.

  1. Remove four bolts (7) that secure fuel transfer pump (4) to the engine oil pump.

  1. Remove drive coupling (8) from fuel transfer pump (4). Remove O-ring seal (9) from fuel transfer pump (4) .

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


Note: Verify that all of the components of the fuel transfer pump are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation.

Note: Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary. Lubricate O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

  1. Install O-ring seal (9) to fuel transfer pump (4). Install drive coupling (8) to fuel transfer pump (4) .

  1. Install four bolts (7) that secure fuel transfer pump (4) to the engine oil pump.

  1. Install bolt (5) and the washer that secures clamp assembly (6) and tube assembly (2) to the bracket.

  1. Connect hose assembly (3), tube assembly (2), and hose assembly (1) to fuel transfer pump (4). Close the lower door assembly.

End By:

  1. Separate the frame lock link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Frame Lock Link - Separate and Connect".
  2. Remove the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
