Start By:

  1. Remove the spindle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Spindle - Remove". The information is in this manual.

  2. Remove the universal joint. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Universal Joint - Remove". The information is in this manual.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove two bolts (1) and guard (2) from the machine. Repeat this procedure for the other side.

  2. Remove bolt (3) and the clip from axle housing (4). Repeat this procedure for the other side.

  3. Place Tool (A) under the axle housing. Remove four nuts (5) from axle housing (4). Repeat this procedure for the other side.

  4. Lower the axle housing until hose (7) is exposed. Loosen retaining nut (6) and disconnect hose (7) from axle housing (4). Remove the axle housing from the machine. The axle housing weighs 295 kg (650 lb).
