Engine Fan Drive Group

Usage:

TRACK-TYPE TRACTOR

OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCKS

D9R (7TL, 8BL),
D10R (3KR) TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS;
769D (5TR),
771D (6JR),
773D (7ER),
775D (6KR) OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCKS

Problem:

The 123-6968 Fan Drive Group is standard on the D10R Tractors and optional equipment on the other machines listed above. Investigation indicates that since approximately January 01, 1998, the 123-6968 Fan Drive Group has included separator plates that had a surface finish that was rougher than specified. This rougher surface finish on the separator plates may result in accelerated wear of the friction discs. Excessively worn friction discs may result in the fan drive not maintaining the required fan speed. This may result in the engine overheating.

Solution:

Effective with 123-6968 Fan Drive Group Serial Number 1260, the separator plates have had the correct surface finish. The fan drive group serial number is on a small plate that is on the fan drive group 4-bolt mount, just forward of where the 4-bolt mount is fastened to the vertical plate of the front of the engine.

All parts stock of 123-6968 Fan Drive Group currently in the parts system have serial numbers greater than 1260. Also, all parts stock of the 121-5767 Overhaul Kit for the 123-6968 Fan Drive Group include the separator plates with the correct surface finish.
