Ethylene glycol has been added to the Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) mixture. The VCI mixture is used to keep 3500 Engines free from corrosion during shipping and storage. Ethylene glycol is now a permanent addition to the VCI mixture.
To ensure that the cooling system is free of corrosion, water passages are flushed with a VCI mixture. The VCI mixture provides corrosion protection for at least one year. There are pockets of the VCI mixture that cannot be drained. Previously, the pockets of VCI mixture could freeze if the temperatures were below freezing. Ethylene glycol has been added to the VCI mixture in order to provide freeze protection for temperatures above -40 °C (-40 °F).
The storage preservation with VCI is an option in the price list that is available for 3500 diesel engines. The storage preservation with VCI is a part of the storage preservation package. The anti-corrosion package keeps the engine free from corrosion for at least one year. The storage preservation with VCI is recommended for engines that will be put into service at least 90 days after production. The storage preservation with VCI is also recommended for any 3500 Engine that will be exposed to a damp, corrosive environment during shipment.
The storage preservation with VCI may be purchased by ordering the feature codes that are listed in Table 1. If a new engine is ordered, consult the price list for the most current information.
