NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Do not turn the crankshaft or the camshaft while the camshaft gear is removed. If the front gear group is not correctly timed during installation, interference can occur between the pistons and the valves, resulting in damage to the engine.

  1. If studs (17) are loose or the threads are damaged, install new studs in front housing (13). Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of studs (17). Install the O-ring seals on the studs and install the studs in the front housing.

  2. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the plate (16) and the front housing (13).

    Note: The mating surfaces of the plate and the front housing must be free of oil, fuel, water, dirt, assembly compounds, and any other contaminants during assembly.

  3. Install a new gasket (15) on plate (16).

    Note: Trim the gasket even with the bottom of the front housing after assembly.

  4. Apply Tooling (B) to the bottom of gasket (15) in order to fill the space at the front housing and the engine oil pan.

  5. Install front housing (13) on the dowel pins on the cylinder block.

  6. Install bolts (14) in front housing (13).

  7. Tighten bolts (18) for the engine oil pan to a torque of 38 ± 6 N·m (28 ± 4 lb ft).

  8. Install bolt (10) and nuts (9) on the front housing.

  9. Install bolts (11) and nuts (12) on the front housing.

  10. Position strap (8) on the front housing and on the cylinder head and install bolts (7).

    Note: The air compressor has been removed for illustration purposes.

  11. Position clips (4) and install bolts (2).

  12. Install bolts (5).

  13. Install the nut and the washer on stud (6).

  14. Install bolts (1) that fasten bracket (3) to the housing.

End By:

  1. Install the camshaft gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft Gear - Remove and Install".

  2. Install the crankshaft front seal and the wear sleeve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Install".

  3. Install the pump drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Pump Drive - Install".

  4. Install the engine support. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Support (Front) - Remove and Install".

  5. Install the crankshaft position sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Position Sensor - Remove and Install".

  6. Install the air compressor, if equipped. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Compressor - Remove and Install".
