Housing (Front) - Remove

Usage:

C15 BXS

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the air compressor, if equipped. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Compressor - Remove and Install".

  2. Remove the camshaft gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft Gear - Remove and Install".

  3. Remove the crankshaft front seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Remove".

  4. Remove the pump drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Pump Drive - Remove".

  5. Remove the crankshaft position sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Position Sensor - Remove and Install".

  6. Remove the engine support. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Support (Front) - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Do not turn the crankshaft or the camshaft while the camshaft gear is removed. If the front gear group is not correctly timed during installation, interference can occur between the pistons and the valves, resulting in damage to the engine.

    Note: The air compressor has been removed for illustration purposes.

  1. Remove the nut and the washer from stud (6) that holds the air compressor to the plate.

  2. Remove bolts (1) that fasten bracket (3) to the housing.

  3. Remove bolts (5).

  4. Remove bolts (2) and clips (4).

  5. Remove bolts (7) and strap (8) from the cylinder head and front housing (13).

  6. Remove bolt (10) and nut (9) from the front housing.

  7. Remove bolts (11) and nuts (12) from the front housing.

  8. Remove bolts (14) from the front housing.

  9. Loosen bolts (18) from the engine oil pan.

    Note: It is not necessary to remove the engine oil pan from the engine.

  10. Remove front housing (13).

  11. If necessary, remove studs (17) and the O-ring seals from the front housing.

  12. Remove gasket (15) from plate (16) and the front housing .
