Crankshaft - Remove

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the engine.

  2. Remove the flywheel housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel Housing - Remove" for the engine that is being serviced.

  3. Remove the timing gear cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Timing Gear Cover - Remove and Install" for the engine that is being serviced.

  4. Remove the pistons and connecting rods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston and Connecting Rods - Remove" for the engine that is being serviced.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

  1. Turn the crankshaft until the timing mark on crankshaft gear (1) is in alignment with the timing mark on camshaft gear (2).

  2. Place a mark on the teeth of the fuel pump drive gear and the idler gear in the engaged position at Location "A". Mark the engaged teeth of the idler gear and the camshaft gear at Location "B". This will assist in the correct timing of the camshaft for the fuel injection pump during installation of the crankshaft.

  3. Fasten a suitable lifting device and suitable lifting chains to the crankshaft.

  4. Remove the caps for the main bearings.

  5. Remove the crankshaft. The weight of the crankshaft is approximately 95 kg (210 lb).

  6. Remove the crankshaft main bearings from the cylinder block and from the caps.
