Start By:

  1. Remove the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Remove" for the engine that is being serviced.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Remove idler gear (2).

  2. Use Tooling (B) in order to remove the bearing from idler gear (2).

  3. Remove suction bell (1).

  4. Remove the bolt and the washer from drive gear (4).

  5. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove drive gear (4) from the shaft.

  6. Remove the key from the shaft.

  7. Remove two bolts (3) from the pump body.

  8. Remove pump body (9), two gears (8), the keys, and spacer (5) from the pump.

  9. Remove two shafts (6) and the gears.

  10. Remove bolt (7), the cover, and the pressure relief valve from the body.

  11. Use Tooling (C) in order to remove the bearings from the oil pump body assembly and the scavenge pump body assembly.
