After servicing the spark plugs on these engines, be sure that the spark plug wires remain fully engaged with the transformers. If a spark plug wire is inadvertently pulled, the spark plug wire may not be fully engaged with the transformer. When this happens the spark plug wire may remain in contact with the transformer and the spark plug will fire for a period of time. The boot may not be sealing the contact area in the transformer. This will allow moisture to enter the contact area and the moisture can cause corrosion which will eventually cause a misfire. For corrosion protection of the connection between the spark plug wire and the transformer, a dielectric grease should be used at the connection.
