Personal injury can result if the machine moves while testing. It the machine begins to move during test, reduce the engine speed immediately and engage the service brake control. |

If the machine moved while testing the parking brake, consult your Caterpillar dealer. Have the dealer inspect and, if necessary repair the parking brake before returning the machine to operation. |

Use the following test to determine whether the parking brake is functional. This test is not intended to measure the maximum holding ability of the parking brake.
Be sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and clear of obstacles.
The parking brake test should be performed on a hard dry surface.
Fasten the seat belt before you test the parking brake.
- Position the machine on a slope of 20 percent.
- Engage the parking brake control. Release the service brake control. The wheels should not rotate. If the wheels rotate, apply the service brake control.
