Removal Procedure

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Remove fuel filter (6) from the fuel filter base, as follows:
- Turn locking collar (4) in a counterclockwise direction and hold fuel filter (6) in position.
- Pull fuel filter (6) from fuel filter base (2) and remove locking collar (4) .

Note: The fuel filter base can be removed without removing the fuel filter from the fuel filter base. If the fuel filter is not being removed from the fuel filter base, skip Step 1.
- Disconnect fuel line (1) and disconnect fuel lines (3) from fuel filter base (2). Immediately cap all openings or plug all openings in order to prevent contamination.
- Disconnect fuel lines (5) from fuel filter base (2). Immediately cap all openings or plug all openings in order to prevent contamination.
- Remove bolts (7) and remove nuts (8) that mount fuel filter base (2) to the engine.

- Remove fuel filter base (2) and fuel filter (6) as a unit.
