Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Ensure that the drain valve for the sea water circuit is closed.

- Release six screws (10) that fasten end plate (9) to the auxiliary water pump. Remove the plate and discard gasket (8) .
- Remove end cap (11) from the front end of impeller (7). Discard the end cap.
- Remove the impeller from shaft (14). Inspect the impeller for excessive wear or for damage. If necessary, replace the impeller.
- Remove the auxiliary water pump from the engine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Auxiliary Water Pump - Remove" for further information.
- Release screw (17) that holds cam plate (6). Tap the top of the screw with a soft faced hammer in order to separate the cam plate from pump body (1). Remove the screw and the cam plate from the pump body.
- Remove wear plate (5) from the auxiliary water pump.
- Remove snap ring (4) which retains seat (3) of the water seal. Remove water seal (2) from shaft (14) and discard the water seal. It can be difficult to remove the water seal. Leave the water seal in position until shaft (14) is pressed out of the pump body.
- Use tool (A) to remove gear (16). Check the gear for damage or for wear. Remove snap ring (15) from the pump body.
Note: The gear for the auxiliary water pump is a pressed fit. If the gear is removed, the shaft and the bearings should be replaced.
- Support the drive end of the pump body. Press out shaft (14). Press out bearings (13) and seal (12). Discard the shaft, the bearings, and the seal.
