Aftercooler (1) Outlet connection for coolant (2) Inlet connection for coolant |
The aftercooler is located in the center of the vee. The aftercooler has core assemblies that are charged with coolant. Coolant from the water pump on the left side of the engine flows through the inlet connection for coolant (2). Coolant circulates through the core assemblies and the coolant exits the aftercooler through the outlet connection for coolant (1) .
Inlet air from the compressor side of the turbocharger flows into the aftercooler housing. The inlet air passes over the fins in the core assemblies. When the inlet air passes over the fins, the temperature of the inlet air decreases. The cooler air flows out of the bottom of the aftercooler and into the lower housing of the aftercooler. Then, the air flows directly to the inlet ports of the cylinder heads.
