Relief Valve (Line) - Test and Adjust

Usage:

365C PAR

Preparation

  1. Position the machine on level ground.

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

    (1) Pressure tap (front pump delivery pressure)

    (2) Pressure tap (rear pump delivery pressure)

  1. Connect a 60000 kPa (8700 psi) pressure gauge to pressure tap (1) and pressure tap (2) .

    Note: Before testing and adjusting procedures can be performed for any of the line relief valves, the signal relief valves must be set to the correct pressure specification. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Relief Valve (Signal) - Test and Adjust" for information concerning the procedure to test and/or adjust the signal relief valves.

    Note: A temporary setting of signal relief valve (4) for the low pressure circuit is required before any line relief valve can be tested. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Relief Valve (Signal) - Test and Adjust".

    Note: Signal relief valve (4) controls the delivery pressure for the boom circuit, the stick circuit, the bucket circuit, and the bottom dump circuit when digging mode is selected as the work mode control. The heavy lift solenoid is de-energized.

    Note: Signal relief valve (3) controls the delivery pressure for the travel circuit and the heavy lift circuit. The solenoid valve for the travel circuit is energized only during travel operations and heavy lift operations.

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Place the machine controls at the following settings:

    • Engine speed dial "2"

    • AEC switch OFF

    • Heavy lift switch OFF (digging mode)

    • Gain/Response "CAT" (normal mode)

    Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Engine Performance - Test" for engine rpm settings.

  1. Place the hydraulic activation control lever in the UNLOCKED position.

  1. Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 55° ± 5°C (131° ± 9°F).

Testing and Adjusting Procedure (Boom Cylinders)

  1. Move the joystick for the boom to the full BOOM RAISE position. Hold the joystick for the boom in this position and check the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) .

  1. Return the joystick for the boom to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. The pressure gauge reading should be 37000 ± 500 kPa (5350 ± 75 psi). If the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is not within the specification, adjust line relief valve (9) .

  1. In order to adjust line relief valve (9), loosen locknut (13) and turn adjustment screw (14) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is 37000 ± 500 kPa (5350 ± 75 psi).

    Note: Turn adjustment screw (14) clockwise in order to increase the pressure. Turn adjustment screw (14) counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure.

    Note: Always make final pressure adjustment on pressure rise.

  1. Tighten locknut (13) to a torque of 33 ± 5 N·m (25 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Move the joystick for the boom to the full BOOM LOWER position. Hold the joystick for the boom in this position and check the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) .

  1. Return the joystick for the boom to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. The pressure gauge reading should be 34000 ± 500 kPa (4900 ± 75 psi). If the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is not within the specification, adjust line relief valve (10) .

  1. In order to adjust line relief valve (10), loosen locknut (13) and turn adjustment screw (14) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is 34000 ± 500 kPa (4900 ± 75 psi).

    Note: Turn adjustment screw (14) clockwise in order to increase the pressure. Turn adjustment screw (14) counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure.

    Note: Always make final pressure adjustment on pressure rise.

  1. Tighten locknut (13) to a torque of 33 ± 5 N·m (25 ± 4 lb ft).

Note: If an appropriate location is not available to fully retract the boom cylinders, exchange the functions of the boom line relief valves. Remove the line relief valve for the boom cylinder head end and the line relief valve for the boom cylinder rod end from the main control valve. Exchange the location in the main relief valve of the line relief valves. Adjust the pressure of the boom line relief valve that is now attached in the head end. After completion of line relief valve adjustment, return the respective line relief valves to the original locations.

Testing and Adjusting Procedure (Stick Cylinder)

  1. Move the joystick for the stick to the full STICK IN position. Hold the joystick for the stick in this position and check the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) .

  1. Return the joystick for the stick to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. The pressure gauge reading should be 34000 ± 500 kPa (4900 ± 75 psi). If the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is not within the specification, adjust line relief valve (11) .

  1. In order to adjust line relief valve (11), loosen locknut (13) and turn adjustment screw (14) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is 34000 ± 500 kPa (4900 ± 75 psi).

    Note: Turn adjustment screw (14) clockwise in order to increase the pressure. Turn adjustment screw (14) counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure.

    Note: Always make final pressure adjustment on pressure rise.

  1. Tighten locknut (13) to a torque of 33 ± 5 N·m (25 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Move the joystick for the stick to the full STICK OUT position. Hold the joystick for the stick in this position and check the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) .

  1. Return the joystick for the stick to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. The pressure gauge reading should be 37000 ± 500 kPa (5350 ± 75 psi). If the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is not within the specification, adjust line relief valve (12) .

  1. In order to adjust line relief valve (12), loosen locknut (13) and turn adjustment screw (14) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is 37000 ± 500 kPa (5350 ± 75 psi).

    Note: Turn adjustment screw (14) clockwise in order to increase the pressure. Turn adjustment screw (14) counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure.

    Note: Always make final pressure adjustment on pressure rise.

  1. Tighten locknut (13) to a torque of 33 ± 5 N·m (25 ± 4 lb ft).

Testing and Adjusting Procedure (Bucket Cylinder)

  1. Move the joystick for the bucket to the full BUCKET CLOSE position. Hold the joystick for the bucket in this position and check the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) .

  1. Return the joystick for the bucket to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. The pressure gauge reading should be 34000 ± 500 kPa (4900 ± 75 psi). If the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is not within the specification, adjust line relief valve (7) .

  1. In order to adjust line relief valve (7), loosen locknut (13) and turn adjustment screw (14) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is 34000 ± 500 kPa (4900 ± 75 psi).

    Note: Turn adjustment screw (14) clockwise in order to increase the pressure. Turn adjustment screw (14) counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure.

    Note: Always make final pressure adjustment on pressure rise.

  1. Tighten locknut (13) to a torque of 33 ± 5 N·m (25 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Move the joystick for the bucket to the full BUCKET OPEN position. Hold the joystick for the bucket in this position and check the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) .

  1. Return the joystick for the boom to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. The pressure gauge reading should be 34000 ± 500 kPa (4900 ± 75 psi). If the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is not within the specification, adjust line relief valve (8) .

  1. In order to adjust line relief valve (8), loosen locknut (13) and turn adjustment screw (14) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is 34000 ± 500 kPa (4900 ± 75 psi).

    Note: Turn adjustment screw (14) clockwise in order to increase the pressure. Turn adjustment screw (14) counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure.

    Note: Always make final pressure adjustment on pressure rise.

  1. Tighten locknut (13) to a torque of 33 ± 5 N·m (25 ± 4 lb ft).

Testing and Adjusting Procedure (Bottom Dump Cylinder)

  1. Move the control for the bottom dump cylinder to the full CLOSE position. Hold the control for the bottom dump cylinder in this position and check the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) .

  1. Return the control for the bottom dump cylinder to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. The pressure gauge reading should be 34000 ± 500 kPa (4900 ± 75 psi). If the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is not within the specification, adjust line relief valve (6) .

  1. In order to adjust line relief valve (6), loosen locknut (13) and turn adjustment screw (14) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is 34000 ± 500 kPa (4900 ± 75 psi).

    Note: Turn adjustment screw (14) clockwise in order to increase the pressure. Turn adjustment screw (14) counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure.

    Note: Always make final pressure adjustment on pressure rise.

  1. Tighten locknut (13) to a torque of 33 ± 5 N·m (25 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Move the control for the bottom dump cylinder to the full OPEN position. Hold the control for the bottom dump cylinder in this position and check the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) .

  1. Return the control for the bottom dump cylinder to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. The pressure gauge reading should be 34000 ± 500 kPa (4900 ± 75 psi). If the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is not within the specification, adjust line relief valve (5) .

  1. In order to adjust line relief valve (5), loosen locknut (13) and turn adjustment screw (14) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (1) or (2) is 34000 ± 500 kPa (4900 ± 75 psi).

    Note: Turn adjustment screw (14) clockwise in order to increase the pressure. Turn adjustment screw (14) counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure.

    Note: Always make final pressure adjustment on pressure rise.

  1. Tighten locknut (13) to a torque of 33 ± 5 N·m (25 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Return the pressure setting of signal relief valve (4) to the specified pressure setting. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Relief Valve (Signal) - Test and Adjust".
