Description of Change: New turbochargers are used on these engines. The new turbochargers have the following improvements:
- new shaft bearings
- a new bearing housing
- a new retainer ring
A new service repair kit (bearing kit) for the turbocharger is also available.
Adaptable To: The new turbochargers are effective with the following 3516 Engines: 25Z6656-UP, 27Z812-UP, 28Z653-UP and 29Z1353-UP. The new turbochargers are adaptable to earlier engines that have the listed serial number prefixes.
The new turbochargers are direct replacements for the former turbochargers. The new service repair kit (bearing kit) can only be used with the new bearing housing. The former bearing kit can only be used with the former bearing housing. When the former turbochargers are serviced, the former bearing kit must be used.
Table 1 lists the turbocharger part numbers. To find the proper part number for your application, verify your current engine rating and the corresponding test specification. Then use the TMI system in order to find the proper turbocharger group.

The components of the service repair kits are listed in Table 2. The new 177-9765 Repair Kit is NOT a direct replacement for the former 4W-5736 Rear Cartridge Kit. In order to use the new 177-9765 Repair Kit with former turbochargers, the former bearing housing must be replaced with the new 177-1008 Bearing Housing.
