Boom, Stick and Bucket Operation

Usage:

5090B CLD

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can occur from operating the front shovel machine without the Falling Objects Guard in place.

Do not tilt the bucket back with the boom raised. This can cause material to dump backward over the spill guard onto the operator's station. Dumping backwards usually occurs with the boom in the highest raise position, but dumping backwards can occur when the boom is less than fully raised.

To prevent possible injury or death, remove any overhang and watch for sliding material.

Never swing a load over a truck cab or over workers.

----------------------

NOTICE

The bucket cylinders on front shovel machines can be damaged by interference with the bucket linkage, when the bucket has been removed.

The stick cylinder must be fully extended to prevent interference.

In order to obtain the maximum digging efficiency, work over the front of the machine. Work with the upper structure in a position up to 30 degrees on either side of the direction of travel. Working within this range also provides maximum track roller life by avoiding side thrust.

  1. Start at the bottom of a pile. Keep the bucket above the grade and close to the machine in order to obtain the greatest digging forces.

  1. Load the bucket as close to the travel direction of the tracks as possible. For a greater crowding force, move the stick in and move the machine closer to the bucket.

  1. Tilt the bucket when the boom is being raised. This will provide the best bucket penetration.

  1. Raise the boom raise when the bucket is fully loaded. Engage the swing control when the bucket clears the pile.

  1. Use controls smoothly to avoid spilling material. Dump with the wind to your back in order to keep dust from obscuring your vision.

  1. Move the stick in when a front dump bucket is being dumped.

  1. Using the bottom dump bucket decreases cycle time.

  1. Tip the bottom dump bucket forward after dumping in order to prevent the bucket from forcing against the stops when the stick is moved in.
