Crankshaft Front Seal and Wear Sleeve - Remove
Removal of the Front Seal
Start By:
- Remove the vibration damper. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper - Remove".

- Remove bolts (1) that attach the adapter and seal assembly (2) to the front housing.

- Remove the bolts (3) that help to retain the wear sleeve onto crankshaft adapter (4) .
- Install three 3/8-16 NC forcing screws in the adapter and seal assembly (2). Tighten the forcing screws evenly and remove the adapter and seal assembly (2) from the front housing.
Removal of the Front Wear Sleeve

- Remove the crankshaft front seal.

Note: Two methods can be used to remove the wear sleeve. The wear sleeve can be removed from the crankshaft adapter while the adapter is attached to the crankshaft or after the adapter is removed. It is not necessary to remove the crankshaft adapter in order to remove the wear sleeve.
Removal of the Front Wear Sleeve

- After the adapter and seal assembly has been removed, use one of bolts (1) to fasten Tooling (A) to one of the holes for bolts (1) .

- Insert Tooling (B) between Tooling (A) and the wear sleeve that is on crankshaft adapter (2). Use a wrench to turn Tooling (B) in order to crimp the wear sleeve.
- Repeat Steps 1 and 2 several times around the outer diameter of crankshaft adapter (2) until the wear sleeve is loose. Then remove the wear sleeve.
Removal of the Crankshaft Adapter and the Front Wear Sleeve

- Install Tooling (A) into the crankshaft through two holes (1) in crankshaft adapter (2) .

- Remove bolts (3) that attach crankshaft adapter (2) to the crankshaft.
- Slide crankshaft adapter (2) away from the crankshaft. Attach a suitable lifting device to crankshaft adapter (2) and remove the adapter from Tooling (A). The weight of the crankshaft adapter is approximately 77 kg (170 lb).
- Insert a sleeve distorter or a similar tool such as a screwdriver between the wear sleeve and the crankshaft adapter. Turn the tool in order to crimp the wear sleeve. Repeat this procedure several times around the outer diameter of the crankshaft adapter until the wear sleeve is loose. Then remove the wear sleeve.
