( 2 ) The secondary tools are used with the Wolff Hydraulic Cylinder Repair Stand. If a hydraulic repair stand is not available to disassemble the cylinder, consult the Caterpillar Service Technology Group.

Start By:

  1. Remove the stick cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Stick Cylinder - Remove" in this manual.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Put the stick cylinder in Tooling (A). The weight of the stick cylinder is approximately 150 kg (330 lb).

  1. Remove lock ring (24) from the cylinder assembly and the head.

  1. Use Tooling (C) to unscrew head (19) from cylinder assembly (1) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) to slide cylinder assembly (1) away from rod assembly (21) and head (19) .

  1. Remove ring (6), seal assembly (7) and ring (8) from piston (9) .

  1. Remove ring (3), ring (2), stop (4), and ring (22) from the end of rod assembly (21) .

  1. Use Tooling (B) to remove locknut (5) that holds piston (9) to rod assembly (21). Remove the piston from the rod assembly.

  1. Remove stop (11) from rod assembly (21). Remove ring (10) from the rod assembly.

  1. Slide cylinder assembly (1) onto rod assembly (21) and head (19). Tighten head (19). Remove cylinder assembly (1) and head (19) from rod assembly (21). Remove the head from the cylinder assembly.

  1. Remove O-ring seal (12), backup ring (13), retaining ring (14), sleeve bearing (15), buffer seal (16), U-cup seal (17), backup ring (18), and wiper seal (20) from head (19) .

  1. Remove the lip seal from both sides of the cylinder assembly and from both sides of the rod assembly at the pin bores.

  1. Remove the bearing from the cylinder assembly and from the rod assembly at the pin bores.
